I have had this cookbook for over twenty years. It is arguably one of the earliest and the best vegan cookbooks. It uses simple ingredients and is a great book for the beginner or seasoned vegan. I've collected many vegan cookbooks over the years but just one look at my falling apart, food splattered. dog-eared copy lets you know how well used and loved book it is!

Reviewer: L.P. from ON, Canada:

This cookbook is full of very simple recipes. This is the basics of vegan cooking. This book does use refined products but you can easily substitute whatever flour, or sweeteners you prefer. The book comes out of a vegan co-housing group and so many of the recipes work well in large batches. There are instructions on making soy milk, tofu etc. There is nothing complicated about this book, it shares a real home-style perspective on the vegan diet, it discusses nutritional needs, vegan pregnancy, vegan children etc. In my opinion the recipes would be enjoyed by vegans in general but tend to include some ingredients that are acquired tastes (nutritional yeast) so they may not impress your omni friends. But is a nice cookbook to have for the simple staples you need to eat a healthy vegan diet on a relatively tight budget.
