This is an AWESOME cookbook!!! If you buy it for no other reason than the Vegan Mayo recipe it is so worth it!!! Everything I have tried in this book has been incredible!
One of my first vegan cookbooks, The Candle Cafe Cookbook at first satisfied me with its rockin' potato recipes (Red White and Blue Potatoes, for instance, are lick-the-plate awesome) and easy, short, well-presented recipes (each recipe starts at the top of a new page). But overall my experiences with it have been a bit hit and miss--no one recipe utterly sucks, but many just turn out so-so, and some of the quirky ingredients (beets in the chocolate brownies, for example) seem more gimmick than smash hit. A notable exception is Lemon-Poppy Seed Muffins which, to my pleased surprise, comes out tastier than Isa Chandra Moskowitz's (of Vegan with a Vengeance fame). While I use the reliably fantastic Vegan with a Vengeance and Veganomicon daily, I still turn to The Candle Cafe Cookbook on occasion when I'm in the mood to give it another try.
Everything I've made out of this cookbook is delicious. There is a nice variety of tastes (not everything tastes Asian) which is a big plus. Some of the recipes are quick and easy, but quite a few are time consuming and require a recipe within a recipe. You might have to make the sauce from a different page to use in the chosen recipe for instance. However, when you want something really special and delicious, it is well worth the trouble. I have served dishes out of this cookbook at dinner parties and received rave reviews.
I love this cookbook! It's one of my favorites. :)
Such a good book!
The recipes aren't too difficult to follow, though some of the ingredients are hard to find, but it's worth it.
Yesterday I made the chocolate mouse cake and brought it to a family meeting, everyone liked it so much, and they didn't have a clue that it was vegan!
